ART 122 - Introduction to African American Visual Arts(3 credits) Meets Category I General Education Requirements 45 lecture hours Prerequisites: REN 092 or ELI 082G and ELI 082W or ENG 101 Students are introduced to African American arts and crafts from Colonial times to the present. The course briefly covers the evolution of the visual arts as a means of expression among this group of Americans, focusing on artistic form, functional application, and aesthetic merit. The impact of economic, political, and racial issues will be addressed as several influential forces that helped shape African American artistic creativity. Slides, lectures, discussion, gallery and museum visitations, written and appropriate art studio projects are all components of this course.
