Fashion Design Degree

The Fashion Design Degree is structured for the student who plans to pursue freelance and entrepreneurial careers in the fashion field or is seeking immediate entry into the fashion industry. Students prepare for careers as designers, assistant designers, computer designers, patternmakers, tailors, fashion stylists, and in the area of specialized design services. Students who choose this degree program will receive a technical background in illustrating original designs, patternmaking, and clothing construction to transform their designs into finished garments

Suggested Sequence of Courses

** All BCCC students must meet the College’s Computer Literacy requirements in order to receive a degree or a certificate. All first-time, full- and part-time degree and certificate seeking students are required to complete the PRE 100 course within the first six credits.

Program Learning Outcomes

Fashion 101 (Apparel Technology) - 1. Students will be able to use industry terminology and equipment in appropriate ways.
Fashion 102 (Historic Costume and Textile Development) - Students will be able to apply historic costume knowledge to modern fashion design construction.
Fashion 103 (Fashion Design Concepts) - Students will be able to analyze and use color units effectively in their design process.
Fashion 104 (Flat Pattern Design) - Students will be able to manipulate patterns using half scale slopers and create other styles within a given frame of time.
Fashion 105 (Visual Merchandising) - Students will be able to construct a visual merchandising display with specified criteria.
Fashion 106 (Apparel Buying and Retailing) - Students will be able to write and present a report about the various types of retail organizations.
Fashion 107 (Survey of Apparel Retailing) - Students will be able to research and name various career paths in the fashion industry.
Fashion 108 (Survey of Textiles) - Students will be able to identify, analyze, and apply trends in the textile industry.
Fashion 200 (Advanced Apparel Technology) - Students will be able to demonstrate the operation of the advanced industrial specialty machines and terminology in the apparel construction process.
Fashion 201 (Fashion Illustration) - Students will be able to develop a library of fashion croquis/templates.
Fashion 202 (Computer-Aided Pattern Design) - Students will be able to manipulate electronic patterns and create other styles using Gerber AccuMark Pattern Making Software.
Fashion 203 (Design by Draping) - Students will be able to drape foundation patterns on the dress form through selected in-class exercises.
Fashion 204 (Design by Draping II) - Students will be able to drape new apparel designs on the dress form within a given time frame.
Fashion 205 (Tailoring Techniques) - Students will be able to construct tailored garments, in correct sequence of operations.
Fashion 206 (Fashion Entrepreneurship) - Students will be able to create a clothing line.
Fashion 207 (Fashion Show Production) - Students will be able to give examples of various types of fashion shows and outline the fashion show plan.
