NUR 122 - Medical-Surgical Nursing of Adults I(8 credits) 60 lecture hours; 180 clinical lab hours Prerequisites: PRE 100 ; Computer Literacy Requirement; PSY 101 ; ENG 101 ; Minimum grades of C in BIO 202 , BIO 203 ; BIO 212 ; NUR 111 ; NUR 120 Corequisites: PSY 104 ; SOC 101 Lab fee Students focus on caring for adults with pathophysiology related to common nutritional problems, regulatory and protective mechanisms, genitourinary problems, and musculoskeletal disorders. Multisystem stressors including cancer, surgery, immunosuppression, and homeostatic imbalance are also surveyed. Consideration is given to factors that influence adult development and health practices such as age, beliefs, resources, and cultural background. Using a holistic approach, students give supervised client care in acute health care settings. The nursing process is used to formulate a plan of care, set priorities, and make clinical decisions.
