Workforce Training: Patient Care Technician

The following courses are offered to licensed Certified Nursing Assistants to enhance their direct patient care skills. The program focuses on advanced nursing skills as well as performing EKGs and phlebotomy tasks and prepares participants to take the National Health Career Association Certified Patient Care Technician exam. 


Note: Participants can take modules individually in preparation for the national exam.


The following course modules are included:
  • Advanced Patient Skills Theory
  • Advanced Patient Skills Clinical
  • EKG Essentials
  • Venipuncture and Specimen Collection Techniques Theory
  • Venipuncture and Specimen Collection Techniques Clinical
Requirements:
  • You must have prior departmental approval to register for this course.
  • Must be a licensed Certified Nursing Assistant with one year of documented experience.
  • A negative Tuberculosis skin test (PPD) or clear chest X-ray if PPD results were previously positive. PPD results must be no more than 12 months old when beginning clinical rotation. 
  • Proof of measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) immunizations or positive titer. 
  • Proof of completion of Hepatitis B vaccination series or sign a waiver releasing the College and clinical site of any legal or medical responsibilities resulting from exposure to the Hepatitis virus. 
  • Proof of varicella immunization or positive titer.
  • Proof of influenza vaccination (seasonal) 
  • Applicants must successfully pass a reading assessment.
  • Must be able to pass both a federal and state background check.
