EDU 291 - AAT Fieldwork Training Experience(3 credits) Prerequisites: EDU 200 , PSY 201 , SED 220 This course provides students with a supervised field-based experience in an approved secondary education setting where the student spends approximately three hours per week totaling (no less than) 45 hours during the semester. Students demonstrate their understanding of the course work in secondary education programs by producing appropriate materials as part of their portfolio. Basic in terms of guiding the learning process, establishing objectives for students, writing lesson plans, assessment of students’ progress, and other topics will be discussed on campus in the classroom. Students are assigned to a particular school. They will be required to participate ina number of guided activities under the direct supervision and observation of the “cooperating teacher.” Some of those activities will include reading a book to students, attending a teacher-planning session, leading a small group activity, leading a class discussion, tutoring a student, and teaching a lesson with supervision. This course fulfills the Maryland State Department of Education’s requirement that students complete 45 hours of fieldwork experience.
