SOC 240 - Sociology of Diaspora(3 Credits) 45 lecture hours Prerequisites: ENG 101 or appropriate ACCUPLACER or ACCUPLACER-ESL scores The movements of human populations predate written human history. This course examines the underlying social, political and economic reasons that people moved and were moved to create the modern world. It examines the impact of human migration on both the giving and receiving societies, the linkages with the society of origin and the development of Diaspora identity. The course will explore both historic and contemporary Diasporas, both intersocietal and intrasocietal.
